Mothers’ Union makes Advent Candles

Advent candles are once again available from the Cathedral Branch of Mothers’ Union. The group has been making them for over 20 years, and candle sales are the major fundraiser for the group.

On Saturday, October 18, many Mothers' Union members and a couple of guests gathered in the Cathedral Hall Kitchen, equipped with hair dryers, to make candles using beeswax sheets. It's a tradition for members and the congregation, as these candles have become part of the Advent celebration in the homes of Cathedral members and others who seek them out each year.

This year, candles will be sold at both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services on November 16, 23 and 30. The cost is $20 for a five candle set (3 purple, 1 pink, 1 white) and booklet ‘Celebrating Advent at Home’.

Candle sets can also be pre-ordered. Please make delivery/pick-up arrangements with Mothers' Union branch leader Susan Watson: email <bagel.watson at hotmail.com>.
