We gathered at the Cathedral at 5:30pm on Tuesday 30 September, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day), for a special service of prayer and reflection in the style of Taizé.
The Taizé Community is an ecumenical Christian monastic community in Burgundy, France, founded in 1940 in the very context of reconciliation efforts in war-torn Europe. Its trademark, contemplative style of worship is now known globally and comprises a simple sequence of music (with repeated, chant-like forms), scripture, silence, and prayers.
For the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our regular Cathedral Taizé Tuesday session focused on the themes of the commemorative day and used the First Nations Version translations for any scriptures involved. All were welcome to attend and honour our Indigenous territory and relations in a contemplative way.
A recording of the service is below.
