Each day, we are busy doing a variety of teaching activities with the children, supporting the excellent teachers. Today included: checking students’ answers to a Pythagorean theorem word problem, playing “Simon Says”, watching our team (St Hilda’s) boys and girls from standard five (grade seven) play in a volleyball tournament, playing active games with a parachute, playing Frogger (an elimination game where the leader tries to guess who is the frog), letter writing to Fredericton children, encouraging the teachers, taking […]

Today has been filled with a variety of activities at the school. We have worked in the classrooms with students, observed classes, and worked with small groups outside on the picnic tables. Nat and Rebecca began their music ministry and games today. The younger children loved everything that Nat and Rebecca did. There was a lot of happy noise and excitement. Today, we started using the games, and they were a smashing success! Of all the excited reactions, my favorite […]

Today, we went to the church service at St. Hilda’s Anglican Church. It was a bit surreal to go from looking at pictures of this beautiful little church to actually stepping inside it. The service was beautiful. Father David Alenskis was sincere and enthusiastic in his ministry, and his wife Mary Ann had a lovely touch on the organ. We also look forward to collaborating with the teachers to learn how they approach different subjects and to see what types of activities they use in class. One clear difference between teaching in Canada and teaching in Belize is the role of religion in the schools. At St. Hilda’s Anglican […]
